Religious Education
believe, express, connect
Welcome to our R.E. page!
I am Miss Stead and I am the R.E. Leader in school.
I love teaching R.E. as it allows children to explore different religions, beliefs and cultures in order to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Intent - Why is Religious Education important for our children?
The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.

RE explores big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.

Dane Royd School follows the Wakefield RE Agreed Syllabus for 2018-2023.

The new syllabus builds on the previous syllabus in that it:
•Outlines the legal requirements for RE
•Adds a principal aim, clarifying the purpose of the subject
•Outlines the breadth of study
•Offers key questions
•Offers an outline of knowledge/content as a guide
•Offers a planning process to support teachers
Implement - What will our children learn?
The Curriculum has been planned carefully to ensure all children build on their RE knowledge and skills year on year. Themes have been planned to engage and enthuse children's learning, whilst taking into consideration previous learning and how to move them further on in their learning. Our RE Progression Map demonstrates the skills we would expect our children to learn over their time at Dane Royd.

Through a carefully planned progressive-curriculum, teachers plan engaging topics which they think that will inspire, challenge and motivate children to learn. There is a two year rolling programme in which children’s skills and knowledge are embedded and developed during their time at Dane Royd.

Impact - How will it help our children?
At Dane Royd Junior and Infant School, we are very much giving the children the building blocks that they need in order to know about and understand a range of religions and world views. We want children to be able to express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and world views. Children will gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions and world views.
What do our children like about Religious Education?
"I liked learning about Jesus in the hay."
Lois - UFS
“I love it when we learn about different religions.”
