Mrs Tyzack
Favourite subject to teach: I love teaching Maths! I also really enjoy Geography as I am interested in the world around us and love travelling to new places.
Favourite book: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Favourite Author: My favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl.

Favourite Song: A really special song to me is ‘Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic’ by The Police, as my daughter was born when this song was playing.
Hobbies: I love to go on long walks with my family, especially if it’s a little bit chilly and I need to wrap up! Then afterwards I love to sit by a roaring fire with a hot drink to warm back up again. I also love to read, especially when I am on holiday.

In Year 2 we have high standards for every learner. It is the final year of Key Stage One in which they will consolidate all of the learning they have done so far in preparation for the end of Key Stage One assessments, or SATs as they are also known. These assessments are an important marker in your child’s learning journey and will demonstrate their understanding in Maths, Reading and Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG).
As a class, we have talked about the importance of trying hard in everything we do. It is so easy to put in the minimum effort when things get tricky or simply give up. I believe a lot in the importance of growth mindset. I hear “I can’t do it!” a lot – but really what we should be saying is “I can’t do it… yet!”
I want our classroom to be one where everyone is happy and feels safe in making mistakes. I want children to learn that these mistakes are proof that we are trying and that we can always learn from them. Throughout the year, children will have opportunities to learn both within the classroom and in our wonderful outdoor school environment.
Your child will continue to become independent learners in Year 2. They will be expected to do more for themselves and take on more responsibility in preparation for the expectations that Key Stage Two will bring. But we will also have lots of fun along the way!
I hope that children will have a memorable year with me in Year 2 this year.
Keep up to date with what we get up to on our class Twitter page: @DaneRoydY2.
